close the door

so yesterday matt (phantom futures/mr. manager) and i drove up from LA to marisa's house in the bay and from there all three of us drove up to marisa's family's place in Tahoe, so that's where we are now. matt & marisa are still asleep, even though marisa constructed a strict schedule beginning at ten a.m. involving ice skating, sledding, hot tubbing, and a meal or two. instead i'm awake alone listening to craft spells's upsettingly beautiful Idle Labor (their debut album - drops on captured in march).

i finally got used to the sun and heat of LA but it's gorgeous here anyway, snow and trees everywhere. people are skiing, which is an activity the physics of which forever escape me.

we watched half of The Room last night and drank tequila and gin. marisa's never seen it before, but we were too exhausted to make it through the whole film (it's a suprisingly trying piece of work to get through). matt and i fell off the couch laughing more than once.

then marisa and i fell asleep watching the secret life of the american teenager, which reeks of and rings discordantly with christian undertones. here's the trailer:

PR should start this week for the few releases we've got going now (the kill/hurt tape, the amdiscs 7", & the spooky town 7" EP). maybe people will start listening. maybe not. either way i guess.

we are definitely going to SXSW though. we got an official invitation. we freaked out, naturally. but flights are booked, we're looking at reserving a hotel, so this is a real thing. our first festival! i've never even attended a festival. so i'm anxious and excited and will probably soil myself more than once between now and march.

here are some amazing albums coming out this year that everyone needs:
smith westerns - dye it blonde
=== lags a bit at times, but wonderfully produced, full of young energy, etc, w/e, fun.
tennis - cape dory
=== everyone got bored of vampire weekend ages ago and tennis's brand of cutesy yachtpop is bright, refreshing, and, uh, cute.
yuck - s/t
=== kickass kickass kickass and also very pretty. like if pavement and neil young had a lovechild and it grew up listening to pavement and neil young.
craft spells - idle labor
=== so so so beautiful. can't wait for this to come out so they can get fucking famous already. they're in seattle now playing a few shows w/ our friends Hausu which is rad, except that means that they can't come to the bay for marisa's birthday, which is sad. alas.

ok whatever. coachella lineup is whatever, except DFA and Strokes. but duh.

what else? i don't know.

xo
